Gutter clearing, flushing and inspection in one visit
Removing the bulk debris by hand before any flushing is the part that matters most. It means the gutters and outlets can be genuinely cleared and their function checked, rather than large amounts of debris simply being washed down into the downpipes.

Blocked gutters stop rainwater going where it should
When gutters and downpipes are blocked, rainwater can't drain the way the system was designed to. During heavier Auckland rainfall that often shows up as gutters overflowing, water running down walls or pooling against the house, and over time damage to fascia, cladding and the ground around the foundations. In more serious cases it can contribute to water finding its way inside.
Clearing gutters regularly also means problems get noticed earlier, while they're still small, instead of sitting hidden under a layer of leaves, dirt and organic build-up.
What we tend to see
- Gutters holding soil and moss rather than loose leaves, so water sits.
- Outlets blocked solid while the rest of the run looks reasonably clear.
- Overflow marks on fascia boards that had gone unnoticed from the ground.
- Early rust starting in a section that's been damp for a long time.
There's no universal gutter cleaning schedule
From our experience the biggest factors are the property's surroundings, how many trees are nearby, the roof design and how quickly debris actually accumulates. A relatively exposed home with few overhanging trees may go up to around two years without meaningful build-up. A heavily vegetated property — common in the leafier parts of Auckland — can need attention as often as every two to three months.
We'd rather assess than assume
We prefer to look at the actual condition of the gutters before recommending anything. There have been jobs where, after getting up and inspecting them, the honest answer was that a clean wasn't necessary yet — so that's what the customer was told, rather than being charged for work they didn't need. We value honesty with our customers and don't like to unnecessarily charge.

Small problems are cheaper to deal with early
We've met homeowners who later faced significant roof and rust repairs because the deterioration wasn't spotted while it was still minor and easily treated. Since we're already up at gutter level, we take the time to look.

Gutters and downpipes are one system
A clean gutter that drains into a blocked downpipe still leaves you with water in the wrong place. Once the gutters and major debris have been cleared, downpipes are flushed where accessible to help confirm water is moving through and draining away correctly.
Why we clear before we flush
Letting debris continually wash into downpipes can build up into more difficult blockages further along the drainage path, which are far harder and more expensive to deal with than a gutter clean. Keeping the outlets and downpipes clear is part of looking after the whole system, not an optional extra.

Before we start, we can photograph the existing condition so you can see what's actually up there. Once the work is finished you receive before-and-after photos of the completed job. No ladder required, and no need to simply take our word for it.

Different properties need different methods
Depending on the property, the roof and the risk involved, we choose the access method that suits the job. The objective is never to take unnecessary risks just to reach an awkward section of gutter — where it makes sense, drone footage helps us inspect a difficult area first, and long-reach equipment lets us clear it from a safer position.
Multiple ladder types
Different homes need different set-ups, so we carry a range rather than forcing one ladder to do everything.
Transformer / multi-position ladder
Useful for stairs, uneven ground and awkward corners where a standard ladder isn't a sensible option.
Harness and fall-protection gear
Used where the roof pitch, height or condition makes it the appropriate way to work.
Two-person crew
Brought in for taller homes or higher-risk work where a second set of hands and eyes matters.
Drone inspection
Lets us look over hard-to-view sections and capture clear footage before deciding how to approach them.

Where it allows an awkward section to be cleared from a safer position on the ground.
How do I know if my gutters are blocked?
A few of these signs are easy to spot from the ground. Others aren't obvious at all, especially on taller homes where you simply can't see into the gutter line — which is where an inspection is genuinely useful.
- Water overflowing from the gutters during rain
- Water spilling over the front or back edge of the gutter
- Plants or weeds growing out of the guttering
- Visible leaves, moss or built-up debris
- Downpipes draining slowly, or not appearing to drain at all
- Water sitting in sections of gutter after rain
- Staining or streaking around the gutters and fascia
- Sagging gutters, or spouting that looks unusually heavy
- Water showing up where it normally shouldn't during rainfall
Gutter cleaning questions we get asked
How often should I have my gutters cleaned?
It varies a lot. Heavily treed properties can need attention as often as every two to three months, while a more exposed home with few nearby trees may go considerably longer — sometimes up to around two years — before debris builds up enough to matter. Surroundings, roof design and how quickly debris collects are the biggest factors.
What's included in a standard gutter clean?

Do you clean the downpipes?
We flush downpipes where they're accessible, once the gutters and bulk debris have been cleared. That way we're checking the water path rather than washing a load of debris straight into it.

Yes. You get photos of the same gutter runs before and after the work, so there's no need to climb a ladder or take our word for it.
What if my gutters don't actually need cleaning?
Then we'll tell you. We've inspected gutters and let the homeowner know a clean wasn't necessary yet rather than charging for work that didn't need doing.
Can you access difficult or high gutters?
Often yes, using a mix of ladder types, harness and fall-protection equipment, a two-person crew, drone inspection and long-reach gear. Access is assessed case-by-case, and we won't take unnecessary risks to reach an awkward section.
Do I need to be home?
Not usually. Where access and arrangements allow, the job can be completed without you being there, and the photos are sent through afterwards.
What happens to the debris?
It's collected and removed, and the work area is tidied up. Nothing gets left in piles on the lawn or in the garden beds.
How can I tell if my gutters are blocked?
